Tertiary Treatment

Local Authorities specify higher effluent quality levels in specific circumstatances. We at Molloy Precast are delighted to design, manufacture and install solutions for such circumstances. Some solutions we have developed so far include:

  • Sand filters
  • Reed beds
  • Sterilisations

These systems are on display in our interactive training and demonstration area which you are welcome to visit at our premises in Tullamore.

Sand Filters

Sand Filters are used as a means to treat wastewater to high quality prior to discharge to a sensitive area or water course. We will size and design an appropriate system to suit you. These systems can be housed in one of our precast tanks or in an in-situ built tank. A sand filter consists of several layers of graded sand. Wastewater is distributed evenly over the filter's surface. It then percolates through the sand, where it is treated by a biofilm within the system. The effluent from the system will be clarified to the required standard. These filters can be used in conjunction with the AswaFlow wastewater treatment system.

Reed Beds

These are a form of constructed wetland and can be used as a means to treat wastewater to high quality prior to discharge to a sensitive area or water course. We can provide you with a design to suit your needs, this could system could be housed in a precast tank, or an in situ built unit. There are two types of reed bed available, namely vertical flow and horizontal flow. Both systems use a media of graded gravel planted with a common reed. The purpose of the reeds is to transfer oxygen via their roots into the media. Both of these systems can be used in conjunction with the AswaFlow wastewater treatment system to produce a high quality effluent.

Sterilisation

Sterilisation usually consists of UV light treatment of the treated effluient prior to discharge to a water course or to a percolation area ina sensitive area. This will redue the pathogen content of the effluent.

We have standard systems for different sizes, however, our team would be happy to design and manufacture kits to suit your site with regard to size and layout.
